In this episode of The Bend, I sit down with someone most of you don’t see on the big conference stages, but absolutely should: Shannon Cameron, CVPM. Shannon is a pricing and profitability strategist with over 30 years in veterinary medicine, starting as a kennel kid and working her way up to technician, manager, and now consultant with Profit Solver. We talk about how to stop guessing at your fees, stop chasing “the guy down the road,” and start pricing based on your actual costs so you can pay your team fairly and still sleep at night.
Shannon shares real-world stories from the trenches, like helping a beloved, AAFP/A AHA-level practice swing from negative profitability to positive in just six months by adjusting only a slice of their fee schedule. We dig into why underpricing services hurts your team, your clients, and your future sale value; how to think differently about labor, COGS, and “the COVID blip”; and why independent practices are more agile (and more powerful) than they think. We also wade into uncomfortable but important territory: embezzlement, time theft, payroll taxes, and the danger of trusting without verifying.

From rescuing dogs to reshaping how veterinary clinics show up online through WhiskerCloud, Adam has spent over a decade using technology to serve over 10,000 veterinary professionals and millions of pet parents. But in 2024, his journey took a deeply personal turn with the loss of his beloved dog, Baxter.
That experience inspired the creation of Love, Baxter, a first-of-its-kind support system for grieving pet parents. In our conversation, Adam shares how Baxter’s legacy now lives on through a platform that offers 24/7 resources, a national directory of end-of-life care providers, grief support, and the world’s largest pet memorial store.
